An ostrich appears to be in a pen, caught in the act of walking toward the camera
Given the nature of the collection, the venue of the ostrich in this photograph appears likely to be the San Diego Zoo. The front of the ostrich is toward the camera, but its head is in profile. The darkness of the plumage compared to the trees and shadows indicates that it might be a male, since females have gray feathers. The San Diego Zoo is in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. This is a Real Photo Post Card (RPPC) made with Azo photo paper (as evidenced in the stampbox on the back of this card). The Real Photo process allowed photographers to take a "snap shot" and have it finished at a photo shop that printed it out on postcard backing for mailing. This type of Azo papers was made from 1917-1930.
