This color postcard has a photograph of the inside of the Scripps Aviary, called a "tropical rain forest," Balboa Park
Ron Garrison
This color postcard shows a photograph with "San Diego Zoo" imposed over the image of people walking on ramps and thick trees and shrubs, with the roof of the Scripps Aviary at the top. The Aviary was built in 1923 with funds from Ellen Browning Scripps, remodeled in 1958 to allow visitors inside, and then again in 1991. The printing on the address side of the card describes the scene as a "Tropical Rain Forest." In 2013 the Scripps Aviary is described by the San Diego Zoological Gardens Web site as housing an "African rain forest." The San Diego Zoological Gardens are in Balboa Park, San Diego, California.
