The Botanical Building and Lily Pond in San Diego's Balboa Park
This view of the Botanical Building also shows the lagoon, some of the botanical gardens, and the footbridge (approximately on a horizontal line with the person on the left nearest the building) that divides the north pond ("Lagunita") from the south pond of the lagoon. The Lily Pond and Botanical Building and conservatory were designed by the architectural firm of Bertram Goodhue (1881-1943), for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915. The roof of the Botanical Building is redwood lath, open to the weather, so the building is sometimes called the "Lath House." The exposition was held in San Diego's Balboa Park to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal.
