Lily Pond and Food and Beverage Building, Balboa Park, San Diego, California
E. C. Kropp Company, Milwaukee, WI
The lagoon (Reflecting Pool, Laguna de Espejo, Laguna de las Flores, later Lily Pond) reflects the Food and Beverage Building, created for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915 as the Varied Industries and Food Products Building. In 1916 it was known as the Foreign and Domestic Industries Building, the Palace of Foods and Beverages during the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935, and later the County Fair Building. After a bond issue in 1968 approved preserving the ornamentation and replacing the building, the Casa del Prado was dedicated on the same site in 1971. Both expositions were held in San Diego's Balboa Park.
