The Arco Del Porvenir (Arch of the Future, also known as Arco del Futuro), is reflected in one of the pools on either side of the arch, all constructed for the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935 held in Balboa Park. On the right is the Cafe of the World on the northeast side of the Plaza del Pacifico. The Cafe was designed by Carleton Winslow (1876-1946) and built for the Panama-California International Exposition of 1915 as the Home Economy Building, was also known as the Pan-Pacific Building and the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Building (sometimes War Memorial Building). It was razed in 1964-65 to make way for the Timken Museum. A portion of the Palace of Fine Arts (the Fine Arts Galley of 1925, in 2013 the San Diego Museum of Art) may be seen in the background to the left of the arch.
