This shows the east side of the Plaza de Pacifico (later Plaza de Panama) during the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935 in Balboa Park. On the left is the Cafe of the World, also known as the Pan-Pacific Building, the Home Economy Building, and the American Legion Building. Originally designed by Carleton Monroe Winslow (1876-1946) and Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue (1869-1924) as the Electricity Building and constructed for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915, this structure was razed in 1963 and replaced by the Timken Museum. The House of Hospitality on the right remains standing in the 21st century as the Balboa Park Visitors Center, having also been an original building for the 1915 Exposition--the Foreign Arts Building or Foreign Liberal Arts Building. In the foreground just to the right of center is the bronze statue of El Cid Campeador by Anna Hyatt Huntington (1876-1973), unveiled in 1930, portraying Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (1043-1099, "El Cid"), a national hero of Spain. The statue remains at the end of El Prado. This is a linen card produced as part of series for the 1935 exposition. The Teich number in the lower right white border is 5A-H444, from which the date is derived. The publisher's number in the upper left border is 4418.
