Instructor Johnny Coats and San Diego State College alumnus William Tascher stand in front of a single-engine airplane on the grounds of Speer Airport. This was the airport at which "The Spirit of St. Louis" made its maiden flight. Tascher had the year before helped make a parody of "Beau Geste" with fellow students.
