Valdés was a Chilean conductor who served as the music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra from 1989 to 1998. He performed as the guest conductor with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra on October 28th, 29th, and 30th, 1994. Valdés was originally scheduled to perform on March 18 and 19th, 1993, but was replaced by Isreali conductor David Shallon and came the following year.
