Interviewer: Van Mullem, Lynn
This interview of Dust as a Vietnam veteran was conducted for Carlotta Mellon's oral history course at California State University, San Diego. Dust has lived in San Diego all his life, and his parents live here at the time of this interview. His tour of duty was March of 1969 to March of 1970, eventually making sergeant. He went to electronics school for eight weeks at Fort Gordon, then after a short leave was sent to Vietnam as a signalman. He had just 6 credits left to graduate with a degree in business administration when he enlisted and is back at San Diego State at the time of this interview. There is a lot of noise generated by the interviewee during the interview. While in Vietnam Dust worked in supply for three major base camps near Saigon, traveling for his position. He was not involved in combat, but their base camps were targeted with rockets and in his travels he saw the aftermath of combat.
