This picture-postcard photograph of the Churchill Hotel nearly matches a photograph in the collection of the San Diego History Center dated 1926. It shows the top floor added in 1921, as well as the mailbox on the left and sign on the right end of the hotel, bottom floor. The Hotel Churchill was opened in 1915, in time for the Panama-California Exposition. It was built by Orrin Churchill and is due tor reopening in 2015 after restoration started 2013. After it had been vacant for eight years, the plan in 2013 by the owner since 2011, the San Diego Housing Commission, was to turn the building into low-incoming housing. The photographic reproduction of this card was of a type called "Gloss Tone," according to the back of the card.
