New Southern Hotel, San Diego, California, US
The New Southern Hotel was open for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915, advertising in the Sunset Magazine of July 1915. By sometime in the 1920s, it had acquired a large sign advertising its presence. By the time a photograph in the collection of the San Diego History Center was taken in 1929 (#6868), it also had a sign behind that for a shoe company. Eventually it became the Southern Hotel, offering low-income housing on a weekly or monthly basis.
