Lanier Hotel, San Diego, California, US
The Lanier Hotel was designed by William Hebbard (1863-1930) for Mrs. Dora Lanier sometime around 1908-1910. It was built on the site of the old Marston house (George Marston, 1850-1946, San Diego entrepreuneur and civic leader) on a corner of Third Avenue and Ash Street, which Marston had sold to Lanier in 1907. A postcard showing the sun parlor of the hotel was mailed in 1923, so it may have been still standing at that time. Given the statement on the back that "The hotel is within ten minutes' ride of the Exposition grounds," and the style of the postcard itself, it appears that this card was produced sometime around the Panama-California Exposition of 1915. The exterior of the hotel is shown in PC-000-831 in this collection, and the same photograph of the lobby is shown in an all-green version in PC-000-829. The publisher's number on the back is 7391.
