Aerial view of San Diego Bay, with ships and a portion of downtown San Diego, as well as North Island (Coronado). The US Navy ships im the Bay are labeled, with the California on the far left. This ship was renamed the San Diego in 1914. The Arcade View Company was active during the second decade of the 20th century and took quite a few photographs of US Navy ships that may be seen in the Naval Historical Center collection. The U. S. Grant Hotel (later The US Grant) is labeled on the far right close to the middle of the downtoan area, with the Horton Plaza across Broadway from it. The postcard is oriented approximately southwest to northeast from the middle of the left to the middle of the right side. Thus the next street to the left of Broadway is E Street. The two other US Navy ships are labeled the South Dakota and the Pennsylvania, and North Island may be seen behind the California and South Dakota. Behind the Pennsylvania and running along the horizon is Point Loma. On the back is a seal of the Panama-California Exposition of 1915; preparations were made for this event as early as 1910. This postcard has sllight differences from PC-000-698. The Curt Teich number on the back is R-18345. The logo of the Benham Co. is also on the back.
