This view of Broadway Street looking west shows the San Diego Trust & Savings building with the cupola on the right, between Fifth and Sixth Avenue, on Broadway (530 Broadway). The cupola featured a revolving beacon from 1928 to 1933. With a hand-tinted picture, this postcard appears to be linen, meaning that it was manufactured in 1930 or later. The San Diego Trust & Savings building was built in 1928 and designed by William Templeton Johnson (1877-1957), later becoming the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Downtown, listed in San Diego's Historical Site Board Register. If the streetcar shown was a Class 1 streetcar, this limits the upper end of the date range of this image to the decade of the 1930s, since that model was scrapped in 1939. Note that the trolley pole over the streetcar in the middle of the street toward the bottom is not apparently connected to anything. The streetcar superstructure was routinely removed from enhanced picture postcards. The publisher's number on the back of the card is 20551N
