The Albertype Company, Brooklyn, NY
This view shows the north side of Puente Cabrillo (Cabrillo Bridge) during the Panama-California Exposition of 1915, with the California State Building in the left background. The bridge, which carries El Prado street over Cabrillo Canyon into Balboa Park at the west entrance, was designed by Frank Phillips Allen, Jr. (1881-1943), and Thomas B. Hunter, with construction and opening in 1914. The California State complex (or California Quadrangle), includes the California Tower and the Callifornia Building (designed by Bertram Goodhue, 1869-1924). The California Building (with the blue dome to the left of the California Tower) later became the San Diego Museum, later renamed the San Diego Museum of Man. Laguna de Puente is shown, along with a track on the far side of the canyon of what would later become California State Route 163.
