This hand-tinted picture postcard is exactly the same as PC-000-643, except that it also has a unique message and address on the reverse side. San Diego's first hook-and-ladder truck was acquired in 1911, and this hand-colored picture postcard is postmarked 1912. In this photograph of the Gaslamp District, streetcar tracks are prominent, and there is a streetcar. On the lower right side of the photograph, at the back end of the truck, is a partly yellow sign for the Manhattan restaurant and hotel. That places this photograph east of Fifth Street, with the restaurant on the north side of D, the truck facing south, and the view looking west along D Street.
