Benham Co., Los Angeles, California, US
The only labeled feature on this hand-colored picture postcard is the San Diego State Normal School on the far left on the horizon. This building, designed by Irving Gill (1870-1936) and William S. Hebbard (1863-1930) was built in 1898 and demolished in the 1950s. It stands out at the corner of Park and El Cajon Boulevards. To the right of the school, at the horizon, is Balboa Park--then City Park until a name change in 1910 in honor of the Exposition--which did become the site of the Panama-California Exposition of 1915. The Curt Teich number on the back of the card is A-10219. The card also bears on the back the logo of the Benham Co., a publisher in Los Angeles. The publisher's card number is 2680.
