Founded in 1949, the San Diego College for Women--of which a chapel is shown on this picture postcard--merged with the College for Men and the School of Law (1954, aka San Diego University) in 1972 to form the University of San Diego, a Catholic university. This chapel, which opened in 1953, is known as Founders Chapel in 2013, and a photograph from 2012 may be seen on the University's Web site. In 2013 it serves as the central place of worship for the University community, with a two-story nave and sanctuary. The publisher was established in 1936.
