A gorilla is sitting next to a ball and holding onto an upright in front of a fence at the San Diego Zoo
The Meriden Gravure Company, Meriden, Connecticut, US
The message section of this black-and-white picture postcard identifies this animal as a "Lowland Gorilla" from "Western Africa" living at the San Diego Zoo. The gorilla appears to be a baby and is sitting looking down while holding onto an upright with its right hand. On its left and obscuring the lower part of its body is a ball half the size of the animal. Behind the gorilla is a fence. According to the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources), in 2013 the western or lowland gorilla is "critically endangered."
