Two elephants walk in their enclosure at the San Diego Zoo, San Diego, California
Above what may be a photograph on the image side of this picture postcard is the caption "In the Elephant's Stockade, Zoological Garden, San Diego, Calif." An elephant appears to be following behind another one, the former with its back to the viewer, and the latter in profile. The following elephant may be holding the tail of the leading elephant. Both are walking on level ground in what appears to be their enclosure. The San Diego Zoo is in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. The head of the following elephant cannot be seen, but the other elephant does not have tusks, so it may be a female. Indian elephants are a subspecies of the Asian elephant, which is classified in 2013 as "vulnerable" by the IUCN Red List (International Union for Conservation of Nature). The publisher operated from 1914-1934.
