The Lily Pond, Casa de Balboa, and American Legion Building in Balboa Park, San Diego
The Lily Pond, also known as the "Lagoon," Laguna de Las Flores, and Laguna de Espejo (Reflecting Pool) was built for the Panama-California International Exposition of 1915-1916, as was the Palace of Better Housing (left) then known as the Commerce and Industries Building. This building was also known as the Canadian Building, Electric Building, Museum of Natural History, Aerospace Museum and the International Aerospace Hall of Fame, before it burned down in 1978, rebuilt as the Casa de Balboa (1980). The American Legion Building (right background) was also known as the Home Economy Building, the Pan-Pacific Building and the Cafe of the World, and it was demolished in 1963 to make way for the Timken Museum of Art.
