The California Building and Tower (1915 California State Building) were built for the Panama-California International Exposition of 1915. This photograph is from the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935 held in San Diego's Balboa Park, when the California Buildings were known as the "Palace of Science." This approach to Balboa Park is from the Cabrillo Bridge (Puente de Cabrillo) designed by Frank Phillips Allen, Jr. (1881-1943), and Thomas B. Hunter, with construction and opening in 1914. The California Building (designed by Bertram Goodhue, 1869-1924) became the San Diego Museum in 1916 and, with the Admnistration Building, was subsequently renamed the San Diego Museum of Man. The arch on the right is the western entrance to the park and forms part of the California Quadrangle.
