The Benham Co., Los Angeles, Callifornia
In 1909, the Hill Street tunnels in Los Angeles were opened. Known as "Tunnel Day," the celebration on September 15 (according to Los Angeles television station KCET) included a parade of vehicles down Sunset Boulevard, including automobiles, horse-drawn carriages, and Los Angeles Pacific streetcars. Locals were happy to save travel time between Hollywood and Los Angeles, and in Hollywood, according to the back of this postcard, resident artist Paul de Longpre held a reception on September 23 "under the auspices of the Hollywood Board of Trade and the Woman's Club." This card is an invitation to the reception.
