Theo. Sohmer, Los Angeles
After William Wrigley, Jr., bought Catalina Island in 1919, he began to build and promote the island for the tourist trade. Villa Park and Island Villa in the center of Avalon were built to handle an expected influx of tourists, the "largest one-floor hotel in the world," with 1,256 one-room "bungalettes, European plan." The publisher's number in the lower left corner is C.I. 16. The number on the back of the card is A-91796, which, according to the guide maintained by the Curt Teich Postcard Archives, translates to 1922.
