Avalon, Santa Catalina Island, from rocks near Sugar Loaf Rock
Van Ornum Colorprint Company, Los Angeles, California
The viewpoint includes Avalon Bay, with boats. The motto "On the Road of a Thousand Wonders" on the back indicates that Santa Catalina Island was considered a destination for a promotion of The Coast Line-Shasta Route of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Maps of the period indicate that San Pedro was on this route, from which one could catch a steamship to Catalina. The Van Ornum and Newman Post Card companies started business in 1908, and the Southern Pacific promotion is represented by booklets published in 1907 and 1908.
