Treasure Island in Big Bear Lake, in the San Bernardino Mountains of California, is also known as China Island, but its correct name is Garstin Island for its owner Maude Garstin, who erected the buildings seen here in 1911. This picture postcard was created by a process in which any photographer could take a "snapshot," deliver the negative to a photo developer and have it printed on a postcard backing. The special papers used for this process are indexed by brand and date, and the Dops paper used for this photograph was issued between 1925 and 1942, according to the letters bordering the stampbox on the back. The publisher's number, last in the line of hand printing on the bottom, is 2074.
