United States Navy
The San Diego Naval Hospital started construction in 1922 after a tent dispensary was established in 1914. More land was deeded to the Navy in subsequent years, and finally a new Naval Medical Center in Florida Canyon, east of the old one, was dedicated in 1988. This photograph was taken prior to the erection of the surgical unit in 1957, large white buildings that can be seen in aerial views on postcards PC-000-924 and PC-000-926. There is a logo of the United States Navy on the back.
