C.T.Art-Colortone (Curt Teich)
The Hotel Pickwick served as the terminus of coastal bus lines and (as of 1928) the home of the Pickwick Broadcasting Corporation (owners of KGB), which explains the towers on the top of the gold-colored building on the left at the corner of First Avenue and Broadway. In this hand-tinted color picture postcard, the superstructure for the streetcars shown at the bottom in the middle has been erased as usual. At the end of the visible left side on Broadway, the San Diego Savings & Loan Building is the tallest, at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Broadway, later the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Downtown. The Spreckels Theatre is the first tall building on the right (1913) Between the Pickwick Hotel and the Trust and Savings building, with the other set of radio towers, is the U. S. Grant Hotel, wich installed their radio towers in 1926. This is a linen postcard.
