Curt Teich
This picture postcard from the "Animal Color Series from the San Diego Zoo" identifies the animal in this image section as "'Ahkup' Orang-Utan" from Borneo. In 2013, the spelling has changed to "orangutan," and these animals are classified as "endangered," according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources). This image is the same as in PC-000-468 in the postcard collection, but with the fence on which the orangutan is resting its hand and zoo background removed. Without the fence, Akhup appears to merely be sitting with its right elbow on a ledge and arm upraised. The San Diego Zoo is in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. The Curt Teich number in the stampbox is 0DK-158, decoded to the year 1960. The publisher's number in the upper left corner is LM-15.
