Bathing Beach, Avalon, Santa Catalina Island, California
The beach at Avalon was once furnished with benches and railings. On the left toward the center and jutting slightly into the skyline is Sugar Loaf Rock, also known as Little Sugarloaf Rock to distinguish it from the larger rock on the left that is part of the mainland. In Avalon Bay small boats are sailing. This picture postcard is marked by a white space on the right for a message, since, although this card has a divided back, what would later be a message space on this card is marked for the return address only. The card must have been made after the date divided backs were first allowed in March 1907. It was made in Germany and belongs to the group of cards made just after the change in postal regulations in 1907. The publisher's number on the back is 4536.
