Descanso Canyon, Hancock Banning's residence, Santa Catalina Island, California
This view looks almost exactly the same as in PC-001-071. The viewpoint is just to the south of and slightly behind Sugar Loaf Rock, which didn't exist after March of 1929. The view is of Descanso Bay and Descanso Canyon northwest of Avalon Bay on Santa Catalina Island. Showing just over the edge of Sugar Loaf Rock (also known as Little Sugarloaf) is the Hancock Banning residence, built in 1895, insuring that this picture was taken no later than 1918. In 1918 construction began on the St. Catherine Hotel, shown in later postcards on the same spot, requiring the home to be moved. Although no publisher is named, a number is in the usual position for a publisher's number--in front of the title, 7673.
