The San Diego Naval Hospital started construction in 1922 after a tent dispensary established in 1914 was expanded to support a Navy training camp in Balboa Park. More land was deeded to the Navy in subsequent years, and finally a new Naval Medical Center in Florida Canyon, Balboa Park, was dedicated in 1988. This photograph looks much like the San Diego History Center's photograph #2542 (1930), as to extent of buildings and landscaping.
