Mr. Flint

In reference to your note about the hog question. My reason for taking action was this. The hogs were put up Saturday night by Nevius and Fred tells me he promised to be around to see you. On Tuesday night he had not been there I suppose detained by hay and at the brick yards and the hogs had not had anything to eat for three days and were literally starving. Fred told me they had not destroyed the hay as reported but had annoyed his camp a little; that they did not go down and bother the hay and as they were suffering, I told him to let them out. I did not know you were watching them. I knew I had asked you same thing about the hogs but did not understand you were to attend to controlling them; in fact, I think that as they are part and parcel of the Hotel and all the expense charged up to the Hotel, we had better let Robinson handle them. When I found we had to feed them until you got your hay baled I told Robinson to buy potatoes which could be bought for about 1/3 cent per pound where corn should cost a cent per pound or more. If Fred had not told me the hogs did no damage and had had nothing to eat for three days, I probably would have seen you before doing anything but as we are holding Robinson accountable for expense at Hotel, perhaps we had better let him attend to them with his Hotel men - moving and feeding them etc., and unless you see some objection to it and advise me, I will so arrange.
