Bauder, Bob G.
Bauder says Texas is like the description by Warren Brown in one issue of the News Letter. While attending geography class he never imagined the living conditions of cotton pickers. George Kimball is probably in advanced training, Bauder in basic. He has heard that San Diego State's population is in decline. On the last page is a list of men from the school who have his same address.

Dear Doctor Post,

I have been receiving your splendid news letter regularly and really appreciate it. I surely think it is a wonderful idea because fellows, like myself, who are away from civilization (California) get quite lonesome from time to time. This Texas is just like Warren Brown described it in one of the news letters. The weather has been somewhat cooler lately.

Honestly Doc, I didn't hardly believe (when taking the geographic courses from you and Mrs. Storm) that people could live in such horrible conditions. Last Sunday I drove out to Aransas Pass to go swimming at their so called beach; I saw the houses that the cotton pickers live in. Gosh, a person is really fortunate to live in good old California.

I haven't seen any of the fellows you spoke of except George Kimball. I saw George in town about a month ago. Guess he is in advanced now. I am in basic and will go into instruments in about two weeks. I surely think one gets a real education here, in fact they teach the cadets everything. The only thing one never has any time, or rather enough time to study it all.

I never realized one had so much free time until I joined the Navy but boy is it sure worth it. I really recommend it to the fellow there at State. I understand that the campus was just about deserted last semester; that is too bad because it was just beginning to grow into a nice size college.

Well Doc, I can't think of much more to say because nothing ever happens around here. Remember me to all the faculty.

Sincerely,
Bob Bauder

P.S. Here are some addresses of some newer fellows who arrived here lately: Jim P. Parks, Micky Phelps, Bob Nuttman, and there is my shipmate Dan Lippencott. He attended Berkly Berkeley for two years and San Diego lte. [?] His folks live over on Hickory Street in Mission Hills. Oh yes, I saw Clair Bendel Saturday and he is about through with basic. All of these fellows may be reached by the standard address here.

Thanks again for the news letters and your card.
Bob
