Graffman was an American pianist who studied in Paris as a Fulbright scholar and led an international touring career. He also had a personal collection of Chinese ceramics dating back to the 10th century. Graffman performed as a guest pianist with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra on March 6th and 7th, 1975.

Typed on the back of the print: "American pianist Gary Graffman with a few of the ancient Oriental ceramics in his collection. Most of these date as far back as the 10th century and, although they were all made in China (many of them even in the same kilns), they were found by Mr. Graffman during the course of his far-flung concert tours in varied and sometimes unexpected parts o the world. Although a number were brought back from Southwest Asia, where he plays frequently, some of his most treasured pieces were acquired in Paris, London and New York."
