The program begins with Haydn's "Symphony No. 100 in G Major," (called "Military"), with Zoltan Rozsnyai conducting, ending at about 27 minutes. (A buzzing sound begins at about 9 minutes but is soon over.) At around 28 minutes David Ward-Steinman's "The Tale of Issoumbochi" begins, with narration by Robert E. Lee, celeste and piano interior by Ward-Steinman, with Emma Small (soprano), Frederick Baker on flute, Charles MacLeod on clarinet, Mary Louise Moore on cello, and percussion by James Hoffman, Paul Beighle, and John Grimes. This piece continues until intermission, and the concert continues on SD SYMPH-35.
