La Jolla was once a village, with one bank, The Bank of Italy on the main street. A streetcar ran through the village. A sleepy small town, a jewel by the sea, but already a well-known resort around the turn of the century... and La Jollans remember it fondly. Interviewees include: Jeannette Rushton, Barbara Stockton, Francis V. Howell, William Scripps Kellogg, Rosemarie English, John Clarke Rose, Karl Zobell, Robert Hill, Gerard Burchard, Bob Wilson, Elizabeth Sellon, and Robert Barrymore. The video features historical photographs from the La Jolla Historical Society, Charles Brockmann, and Jerry Johnson. Among the memories: Lola Tuttle going in swimming at La Jolla Cove as a standin for Mary Pickford, beach parties, picnics, bonfires, "deepwater swims," sorority girls renting cottages along the beach, tourists, birthdays, parties, sewing circles, the beginnings of Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The sound of ocean surf follows accounts of time on the beaches. Interviewers were J. Edward Bungay and Lucine Sheridan, and photographs were from Charles Brockmann, Jerry Johnson, and the La Jolla Historical Society.
