The Aztec Story, San Diego State

 

1970s

 

 

This short clip begins with footage of the "Aztec" sculpture in the Main Quad on the campus of San Diego State and displays an illegible banner which, presumably, describes the content of the footage. A choir sings behind the title and opening sequence. It goes on to show footage of San Diego with Balboa Park and then San Diego State University, with an estimated student body of "28,000 by 1975." As the narrator expands on the various studies and experiences available to students, students are shown in classes and walking around campus, as well as using various facilities such as a swimming pool. Several research professors are named as they walk past the camera. The Aztec Shack is shown with students working inside, as is a sample of an international exchange site. Homecoming events and other events such as commencement are shown, and toward the end there is footage of the conferral of an honorary degree on John F. Kennedy in 1963. This promotional piece is all in color, appears to have distorted sound and video in spots. A band plays in the background, probably the University's marching band.
