This side of the postcard shows a postage stamp and postmark, address and message (see "Transcription"). Van Deerlin was a member of the House of Representatives from San Diego (1963-1981). Later he taught at San Diego State University (1984-1987), with the Lionel Van Deerlin Chair in Communications endowed in his honor (1985).

[handwritten] Waiting to board one of these boats for a canal cruise around Bruges. Had a great trip on the cruise ship down the Rhine. Rented a car in Rotterdam and are touring Holland & Belgium for a week. Don't know where we will spend the next right.
