Van Deerlin squats with a rabbit in his lap as his wife Mary Jo holds Victoria. John holds Jeff as the latter pets the rabbit. Lionel Van Deerlin was a member of the House of Representatives from 1963 to 1981. Later he taught at San Diego State University (1984-1987), with the Lionel Van Deerlin Chair in Communications endowed in his honor (1985).
