Real Photo Post Card of the Palomar Apartments in San Diego, Californa
1920

The Real Photo Post Card (RPPC) process allowed amateur or professional photographers to take a "snap-shot" and take it to a photofinisher to get postcards ready for mailing. The photographer is unknown, but the subject is the Palomar Apartments on Maple Street in San Diego, California, as written in white ink in the published photograph as a postcard. The type of printout paper (EKKP) and postal regulations limit the dates of this card from 1907 to 1950, but a photograph in the collection of the San Diego History Center looks exactly like this postcard (#6711) and is dated 1920. The apartment building was designed by Richard Requa (1881-1941) and Frank Mead (1865-1940) and built around 1914. Wallace Simpson, the woman for whom Edward VIII of England gave up his throne, lived in apartment 104 of this buildng. The Palomar Apartments have been restored and are in operation in 2013.
