Picture postcard of U. S. Grant Hotel on Broadway, San Diego, California, with palms from Horton Plaza in foreground
1910s
Enter a free text date.
The U. S. Grant Hotel first opened in 1910, with Harrison Albright (1866-1933) as architect. The photograph was taken from across the street and includes just the tops of the palms in Horton Plaza, which preceded the hotel. Streetcar tracks can be seen in front of the hotel, but, as in most enhanced picture postcards involving streetcars and tracks, the superstructure of the streetcar system has been removed. This hotel underwent a slight name change to The US Grant, but its place on the National Register of Historic Sites ensured its survival with limited changes to the outside of the building. The publisher number on the back of this card is 24068.
