This is a hand-tinted picture postcard showing the home of the son of United States president Ulysses S. Grant, U. S. Grant, Jr. The Havermale Mansion at the corner of Eighth and Ash Streets was purchased by the Grants in 1893. The house was built in 1887-1888 by Ora Hubbell, designed by the same architects who created the Hotel Coronado, James W. and Merritt Reid. It was demolished in 1927 to make way for the El Cortez Hotel. Although it shows exactly the same photograph as two other postcards in this collection (PC-000-728 and PC-000-729A) it was not printed during the same period (1901-1907), during which US Post Office regulations permitted the use of the words "Post Card" but did not yet allow messages to be written on the back of the card, only addresses. This card has a "divided back" alowing for messages on the left side. All three cards have different publishers. This card from Newman Post Card Co. was printed in Germany and bears the number L. 6.
