Curt Teich
The US Grant hotel (formerly U. S. Grant Hotel, opened 1910) faces Horton Plaza, given to the City of San Diego in 1895 by Alonzo Horton (1813-1909) and created for guests of the Horton House Hotel, which earlier occupied the site of the US Grant hotel. In this hand-tinted color postcard, The US Grant hotel is the whitish building on the right with two towers and the flag on the tower near the middle of the photograph. The Plaza is marked by palm trees and a fountain in the center of the plaza (bottom right) designed by Irving Gill (1870-1936) and installed in 1909. This is a linen postcard, a type of card made from around 1930 to the early 1950s, and the publishing company was open for business from 1932 to the 1970s.
