The arcade between the Foreign Arts and Canadian Buildings during the Panama-California International Exposition of 1916 shows the Botanical Building in the distance. The Exposition was held in San Diego's Balboa Park to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal. The Foreign Arts (or Foreign Liberal Arts) Building was later called the House of Hospitality. The Canadian Building was built for the 1915 Expositon as the Commerce and Industries Building, and later briefly housed the Museum of Natural History, was the Palace of Better Housing for the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935, and was renamed the Electric Building before it burned down in 1978. It was reconstructed as the Casa de Balboa.
