A baby elephant allows its trunk to be touched at the Children's Zoo in the San Diego Zoo
Actual Photo Co., La Jolla, California
Self-described as an "Actual Photo," the image on this deckle picture postcard is said to be that of a "Baby Elephant" in the "Children's Zoo, San Diego." The Children's Zoo is part of the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park. In the image, a baby elephant that is quite fuzzy on back and head stands facing to the right, standing on the edge of the moat bordering its enclosure, and allowing a person to touch its trunk. Behind the elephant are a palm tree on the left, foliage, and part of the fence bordering its territory. Elephants are classified in 2013 as "vulnerable" by the IUCN Red List (International Union for Conservation of Nature). The image is an actual photograph rather than a printed reproduction. The back of the card states that it was "finished in West Germany." There are two numbers on the back of the card: ZA 66 and (P216).
