An orangutan hangs onto its wire cage with an arm and leg while looking at the camera
Kodachrome by G. E. Kirkpatrick
This picture postcard from the "Animal Color Series from the San Diego Zoo" identifies the animal in the picture section as an "Orang-Utan" In 2013, the spelling has changed to "orangutan," and orangutans are either "critically endangered" or "endangered," depending on whether they are Bornean or Sumatran, according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources). This orangutan is looking at the camera while hanging onto its cage with an arm and leg and apparently taking something from a woman who is poking an object thorugh the wire. The San Diego Zoo is in Balboa Park, San Diego, California.
