A clouded leopard cub crouches on a branch surrounded by foliage at the San Diego Zoo
Ron Garrison
San Diego Zoo, San Diego, California, US
According to the caption on the front of the card, the subject of this color picture postcard is a clouded leopard cub. It is lying on a wooden branch amid foliage, with its left side to the camera, looking down. In the message portion ofthe postcard, this name is reiterated and the Latin name Neofelis nebulosa added, along with the range of Southern Asia. Clouded leopards are not related to leopards and are the smallest of the "big cats." In 2013 their range in the wild extends from the Himilayan foothills in Nepal into China, and their conservation status is listed as "vulnerable" by the IUCN Red List (International Union for Conservation of Nature).
