A jaguar lies on a branch of a climbing structure with its mouth open, revealing its teeth, at the San Diego Zoo
A jaguar lies on a branch of a climbing structure and bares its teeth in this black-and-white photograph. The message portion of the picture postcard states that it is a "Jaguar--South America," the "Largest of American Cats," and that it resides in the "San Diego Zoo." The San Diego Zoo is in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. Jaguars are the largest "big cats" in South America, according to National Geographic. Although the publisher started operating in 1887, the postcard can be no older than 1907, when postal regulations changed to allow messages on the back of the card, which was then divided.
