A closeup of a grenadier weaver bird, also known as a red bishop, in the Scripps Aviary at the San Diego Zoo
Zoological Society of San Diego
This picture postcard has a message on the reverse that it is a "Limited Editon Postcard - given to special friends in recognition of their support of the Zoological Society of San Diego." The picture portion appears to be a reproduction of a color photograph of a grenadier weaver bird, also known as a red bishop, sitting on a branch, with its back to the camera but looking over its shoulder. The bird's right leg is banded, and there is a yellow flower on the left edge in the middle. This bird is in "nuptial" plumage, during which the orange color is visible. The inscription on the reverse states that the bird is "featured on exhibit at Scripps Aviary, San Diego Zoo." The San Diego Zoo is in Balboa Park, San Diego, California,
